Bitter truth: Sugar now at P100 a kilo

Refined sugar has become dearer still, going for P100 per kilogram at markets across the National Capital Across on August 4 due to supply problems.
In some markets in Metro Manila, one kilo of refined sugar was selling anywhere from P90 to P105, whole the price of brown sugar hovered between P60 and P75 a kilo.
The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has assured that na while current supply is projected to last until August 19, they are expecting more sugar to come from Negros. Additionally, the SRA is working on arranging the importation of sugar in the coming weeks.
Sugar supply has been impacted by Typhoon Odette at the lowered production due to the seasonal rains.
SRA Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica has appealed to the public to refrain from panic buying sugar.
