A bill seeking to provide a one-time cash aid of P2,000 to all Filipinos to ameliorate people’s burden in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising cost of goods and services, has been filed in the House of Representatives.

In filing House Bill No. 2022 or the Universal Ayuda Act, Kalinga party-list Rep. Irene Gay Saulog hopes that the cash relief will be “an equitable means of providing assistance especially to those who were neglected in the previous programs of the government.”

In her explanatory statement to the media on Tuesday, August 9, Saulog lamented that many families continue to be left out from the government’s pandemic-related social amelioration programs. She noted that irregularities surrounded the distribution of cash aid, and added that the priority list of recipients of cash aid might not be fully responsive and up-to-date

An amount of P218 is proposed to fund the one-time cash aid. Saulog maintains that the cash assistance will benefit the country, as the money will flow back into the economy when people use it to purchase goods and services.
