PNP refuses visits for De Lima on her birthday

Philippine National Police (PNP) has refused visits by several prominent personalities for Leila de Lima, a former senator who is currently being held at Camp Crame, on Saturday, August 27, according to de Lima’s camp.

Former Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, former SC Associate Justice and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales, Senator Risa Hontiveros, and Rep. Edcel Lagman were among those who were prohibited from seeing the former legislator.

Also denied were former senator Franklin Drilon and Atty. Professor Winnie Monsod, former congressman Tom Villarin, ex-secretaries Mar Roxas and Julia Abad, and attorney Chel Diokno are among the Monsod family members.

Her brother, Vicboy De Lima, initially made the denial of the visit known during a Zoom event honoring the former lawmaker’s 63rd birthday on Saturday morning.

Later in the same event, Fhillip Sawali, the former chief of staff for De Lima, confirmed it via the program’s host, Dr. Socorro Reyes.

Dr. Vicente De Lima, who was previously listed as being prohibited from seeing De Lima, was later confirmed by his brother Vicboy to be permitted to see the former politician.

No explanation was given for the denial of the visit.

Former socioeconomic planning secretary Winnie Monsod tweeted about being verbally disapproved from visiting De Lima even if she had made the request weeks ago.
