Sept. 12 declared special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte in honor of ex-Pres. Marcos Sr.
In honor of the 105th birthday of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr., father of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Malacaang has designated September 12 as a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte.
On Thursday, Attorney wrote a letter. Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc was told by Concepcion Zeny E. Ferrolino-Enad, Director IV of the Malacanang Records Office, that Sept. 12, 2022, has been designated a special non-working holiday in the province by Proclamation 53 of the Office of the President.
On August 22, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Norte urged that the holiday be declared on September 12 rather than the elder Marcos’ birthday, which comes on September 11 but is a Sunday.
Given that Marcos Day is always observed in the province, whether or not it has been declared a holiday, the Palace understood the necessity to allow Ilocanos to mark the occasion.
Ilocos Norte 2nd District Representative Angelo Marcos Barba said he hopes the “Marcos Day” bill, which he co-sponsored during his first term, will soon have a Senate counterpart measure to be approved into law so that Ilocos Norte will no longer have to go through the time-consuming process of requesting Malacanang eve. Side A, which will perform on Saturday at the Laoag Centennial Arena, just arrived at the Laoag.
Various local government entities in this area, including other governmental organizations and schools, have planned various festivities to honor the “Apo Lakay” on an annual basis.
The Ferdinand E. Marcos Museum Complex will host an all-vegetarian cuisine competition, as well as a debating cup and a literary and musical competition in which different province-wide schools will compete.
