Alex Eala advances to US Open girls singles finals
After defeating Victoria Mboko of Canada in their semifinal match on Saturday morning (Manila time) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, the United States, Alex Eala entered her first-ever US Open finals appearance.
The Canadian netter was defeated by the teenage tennis star from the Philippines in just one hour and 21 minutes.
Eala and Mboko each had six double faults, while the Canadian player had five aces to two for the Philippine player. However, Eala’s few mistakes—21 compared to Mboko’s 31—were what gave her the victory.
In the last round on Sunday, Eala will play Czech Republic’s Lucie Havlickova in an attempt to win her third Grand Slam overall and first ever in singles competition.
Eala remained unbeatable the entire time, defeating Annabelle Xu and Nina Vargova in the first and second rounds, respectively, before defeating Taylah Preston of Australia 6-2, 7-6 (1).
