The Manila International Book Fair is back on-site!
The Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), which kicked out on Thursday at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, marked the return of the Philippine book industry from a break brought on by the epidemic.
The MIBF is the biggest and most established book fair in the Philippines,
“We had to navigate our way in the online space. But along the way, something happened and now we are so finding our way back,” said National Book Development Board Executive Director Charisse Aquino-Tugade in her opening remarks.
“Creators started to create and figured out new ways in which they could do that. Publishers found ways to get their books in the hands of Filipinos all over the world, and distributors found the online realm and apps to make it easier. And we saw a new generation of young Filipino authors in the last two years and the rise of the self-publishers,” she added.
Aquino-Tugade paid tribute o the country’s authors, publishers and book distributors.
“Your voices are now being heard and your books — they are screaming so much so that our legislators are rooting for you,” she said.
MIBF has exhibited the largest and most comprehensive collection of books, magazines, comics, educational aids and allied materials for the past 40 years.
Participants include publishers, bookstores, book printers, embassies, art and craft suppliers, artist groups, tech businesses, paper suppliers and libraries.
Catch the MIBF at the SMX Convention Center from September 15 to 18.
