Laking “Nash”? National Book Store trends, not for the flattering reasons

It started with Twitter user Eduardo A. Barrenechea II @barrrrre bemoaning his recent experiences at National Book Store.

“Is it just me or are National Bookstore shops so depressing these days?”

Barrenechea fretted over unreplenished inventory and the “overall feel of emptiness” in stores owned by the country’s biggest bookstore chain.

He ended the post by wistfully remembering the exciting “Nash” bookstore of his youth.

Posted on September 19, the tweet now has been retweeted more than 8000 times and earned nearly 57,000 likes, in addition to countless replies and quote tweets from netizens who shared Barrenechea’s sentiments.

The responses offered possible reasons for NBS’s seeming to be stuck in a rut, ranging from the owners making a corporate decision to shift their business focus from books to school supplies to the hardship caused by the pandemic and increased competition from online book sellers.

However, no one was going to get away with calling National Bookstore as posh-sounding “Nash.”

National Book Store couldn’t resist playing along the “Nash” reference, although many netizens weren’t amused.

The reference to itself as Nash wasn’t gonna fly with National Book Store’s followers.

National Book Store’s failed attempt to sound cute aside, many netizens also complained about the lack of books in its stores, the incomplete inventory of school supplies, and the dim lighting that gives many of its stores a neglected look.

Oof, looks like Nash has got the book thrown at them. Better luck next time, NBS!
