66% Pinoys concerned about inflation, according to latest Pulse Asia survey

According to the most recent findings of a Pulse Asia survey issued on Thursday, October 6, the majority of Filipinos continue to view inflation management as a national concern that requires the Marcos administration’s immediate attention.

Controlling inflation was ranked as the most important national problem by 66% of Filipinos in the Ulat ng Bayan survey, which included 1,200 respondents and was conducted from September 17 to 21.

“This is the prevailing view in all geographic areas and socio-economic classes (56 percent to 81 percent and 51 percent to 71 percent, respectively),” Pulse Asia said in its report.

Furthermore, 44 percent of Filipino adults said that raising worker wage should be a top priority for the country.

Thirty-five percent are also worried about the creation of jobs, and 34 percent are concerned about the decrease of poverty.

Between June 2022 and September 2022, the public’s perception of important national issues saw a few modifications, according to Pulse Asia.

“The level of concern about controlling inflation—the only national issue considered urgent by most adults (66 percent)—increases (+9 percentage points) while concern about creating more jobs also becomes more pronounced (+6 percentage points). In contrast, public concern regarding peace promotion in the country eases during the same period (-6 percentage points),” it said.

About 22 percent also deemed as urgent the fight against graft and corruption in government.

“Criminality and involuntary hunger are issues that concern about a fifth of the adult population (19 percent and 17 percent, respectively) while enforcing the rule of law in the country is mentioned by a little over a tenth (12 percent),” Pulse Asia pointed out.

The following issues, however, have received little attention from Filipino adults: assisting small business owners (9%), preserving the environment (9%), fostering world peace (8%), lowering taxes for citizens (7%), halting the spread of Covid-19 (5%), defending national territorial integrity (5%), ensuring the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (4%) and getting ready to deal with terrorist threats (4%) (2 percent).
