At least 37 killed in mass shooting at Thailand child care center
The country’s Central Investigation Bureau said that a mass shooting at a daycare facility in northeast Thailand on Thursday claimed the lives of at least 37 people, including 22 children.
After the incident, the suspect, Panya Kamrab, 34, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities. The victims included Kamrab’s wife and children, according to the authorities.
Authorities claim that Kamrab resided close to the daycare facility.
According to authorities, Kamrab, a former police officer, started shooting at the facility in a rural part of Nong Bua Lamphu province.
Thailand national police chief Gen. Damrongsak Kittipraphat said knives and a 9 millimeter pistol were both used in the assault.
According to the Thai daily Khaosod, Kamrab was discharged from his position as a police officer after being accused of narcotics trafficking earlier this year. Kittipraphat stated that a decision in that matter will be made on Friday.
The victims were discovered at five different places in addition to a nearby hospital.
According to Kittipraphat, the child care center’s remote location caused a delay in the police reaction.
