APO Hiking Society’s Danny Javier dies at 75
Singer-songwriter Daniel “Danny” Javier of Filipino pop-folk music trio, APO Hiking Society has passed away. He was 75.
The sad news was confirmed by Javier’s daughter Justine Javier Long on Monday, who said he died from “complications due to his prolonged illnesses.”
“In life, as in his death, our Pop never stopped fighting for what he loved, what he believed in and what he was passionate about,” she wrote on Facebook.
The Javier family is asking for respect and privacy as they arrange details of his wake. They are also full of gratitude towards everyone for the “outpouring love, prayers, and condolences at this difficult time.”
“Maraming salamat po. Ramdam na ramdam namin ang pagmamahal ninyong lahat para sa kanya.”
“Sa lungkot at ligaya, hirap at ginhawa, kami’y kasama mo.”
Online tributes and messages have started pouring in for Javier from friends and colleagues, most notable among them the two other members of Apo Hiking Society, Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo.
On Instagram, Paredes posted a black and white photo of Danny having fun at a recording session.
“Danny clowning around during recording years ago. Till we meet again, Bro,” Jim wrote.
Garrovillo also paid tribute to Danny after Danny’s death was announced by his relatives.
“Just feeling the loss of an old faithful friend who knew what love is although sometimes it just doesn’t show. My friend lives on in his music,” he said.
Apo Hiking Society is the iconic Pinoy folk pop group that popularized the songs “Batang-bata Ka Pa,” “Awit ng Barkada,” “When I Met You,” “Panalangin,” “Prinsesa,” and “Saan Na Nga Ba Ang Barkada,” to name a few.
