Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto resigns from Aksyon Demokratiko

Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” Sotto  has resigned from Aksyon Demokratiko (AD) after four years as a focal member of the political party.

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Sotto said he decided to leave as he believes the party is “no longer a group of individuals with similar political goals and ideals.”

Attached in the tweet is a copy of the letter tendering his resignation on June 30, addressed to party chairperson Ernesto Ramel.

In a statement, Ramel said that Aksyon Demokratiko was “saddened” by Sotto’s resignation.

“He is one of the inspirations of the party to be better and we were hoping that he will be the future of Aksyon Demokratiko,” he said.

However, Ramel said the party is “not lacking in talent and strong, young future leaders of this country that were elected last 2022 and those who also did not make it but had shown exceptional leadership abilities”.

Sotto ran under the Aksyon Demokratiko banner when he won his first mayoralty term in 2019, and when he was reelected in 2022
