Juanito Remulla pleads not guilty to drug possession charge

The son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Juanito Remulla III, entered a not guilty plea to drug possession charges before a Las Pias City court on Friday.

Former Quezon City congressman Remulla made a not guilty plea before Judge Ricardo Moldez II of the Las Pias Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 197, according to Jose Christopher Belmonte, one of Juanito’s attorney.

When asked if the younger Remulla pleaded not guilty, Belmonte said, “Yes.”

On October 11, 2017, Juanito was taken into custody after being discovered in possession of about a kilogram of kush, a marijuana plant hybrid believed to be worth more than P1.3 million. The arrest took place after a controlled delivery operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Juanito reportedly attended the preliminary investigation into the drug charges made against him last Wednesday, November 2.

Juanito’s father, Justice Secretary Remulla, had earlier reassured the public on numerous occasions that he would not get involved in the case and that his son would have to take responsibility for his conduct.

Numerous internet users have demanded that Remulla step down as justice secretary, but President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and a number of politicians have defended Remulla and stated that there is no reason to do so.
