Maine Mendoza wants die-hard AlDub fans to accept Alden Richards is only on-screen partner, not real-life
GMA Network star Maine Mendoza wants die-hard fans of AlDUb, her loveteam with fellow actor Alden Richards, to accept that her relationship with the actor is professional and not a real-life romantic one.
In an interview with talent manager and host Ogie Diaz, Mendoza shared her thoughts on AlDub fans who continue to cling to the possibility that the two of them will end up together in real life.
AlDub is the phenomenal loveteam of Richards and Mendoza (known as Yaya Dub) derived from their characters in the blockbuster kalyeserye on noontime show “Eat Bulaga” in 2015.
In the interview Diaz said he admired Mendoza for revealing the real state of affairs about her love life rather than sticking to her onscreen partner to preserve the loveteam’s popularity.
“May mga taong gano’n na gusto nila nafi-feed ‘yung imagination nila, and for lack of a better term, delusion nila. Pero mas okay kasi na early on pa lang, paalam mo na ‘yong totoo. Pwede naman tayong mag-enjoy, ma-entertain na alam natin ‘yong katotohanan na wala tayong sinasaktan or ida-damage,” Mendoza said.
The “Eat Bulaga” host said many of the AlDub fans have already accepted that their partnership are just onscreen but still, there are fans that believe that she and Alden are already married and with children, even.
“Marami na rin namang nakatanggap. Iyong iba nag-stop na mag-support which is totally okay lang din naman. Pero meron pa rin po na hanggang ngayon, kumakapit pa rin do’n. So ayon ‘yung hindi ko rin ma-tolerate. I tried calling them out couple of times already. Pero ayaw po rin nilang maniwala,” she said.
Mendoza took the opportunity in the interview to once again set the record straight.
I would take this chance, kasi ‘yong iba sabi mag-asawa kami ni Alden, may anak na kami.
Mendoza’s repeat attempts to remind AlDub die-hards that she and Richards are only on-screen partner have fallen on deaf ears so many times that she reveals she’s grown tired of the issue. “Dumadating na lang ako sa point na nakakapagod na mag-explain,” she added.
Mendoza is currently engaged to actor and politician Arjo Atayde.
The phenomenal loveteam made Twitter history when the hashtag #AlDubTamangPanahon was used in more than 40 million tweets in 24 hours on October 24, 2015, the day the culminating show and benefit concert was held.
Twitter was not so AlDub crazy after Diaz’s interview with Mendoza aired. Many netizens cringed at the level of “delusion” some die-hard fans continue to display despite concrete evidence to the contrary staring them in the face.
A video clip of an AlDub fan gathering in which participants are singing “If We Hold On Together” while holding hands and lighted candles became a subject of online mockery. Some netizens deemed the level of fanaticism on display was almost cult-like.
