Sen. Cynthia Villar on minimizing crop damage during typhoon: ‘Matuto tayong kumain ng kamote’

Senator Cynthia Villar has suggested that Filipinos learn to eat kamote, ostensibly as a substitute for rice, because root crops are less likely to be damaged during typhoons.

Interacting with reporters at the Department of Agriculture’s central office in n Quezon City on Monday, November 7, Villar, who is the chairperson of the Senate committee on Agriculture and Food, said that the government is looking at possible ways to minimize agricultural damage during the typhoon season.

Matuto tayong kumain ng kamote,” she reasoned.

A clip of the interview instantly went viral on Twitter and provoked angry and dismayed reactions from netizens.
