John Amores expelled from JRU basketball team
After the contentious player went on a punching binge in NCAA Season 98 last week, Jose Rizal University (JRU) upgraded its punishment for John Amores from an indefinite suspension to expulsion from the Heavy Bombers basketball team effective immediately.
The troubled forward has been dropped by the university from participation in either of the school’s athletic programs including the Heavy Bombers squad, the university announced in a letter on Tuesday.
“After a thorough evaluation, the board is convinced that additional sanctions should be imposed against him as part of the internal processes on discipline observed by the school,” the statement said.
JRU also announced that it has established a mental health program for its student-athletes to address any difficulties they may be having with their studies, athletics, or personal matters.

Amores is suspended from the basketball team and his academics while he attends counseling and completes community service.
The two College of St. Benilde players Amores punched during the on-court altercation have since filed serious physical harm accusations against him, in addition to the ongoing lawsuit brought by Mark Belmonte of the University of the Philippines after a punching incident in a preseason tournament.
