MMK to air final episode in December after 31-year run
Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), Asia’s longest-running drama anthology, will come to an end in December, host and ABS-CBN executive Charo Santos-Concio revealed on Monday, November 21.
In her two-minute farewell message, Ate Charo, as she is referred to endearingly on the show said, “Hindi na po mabilang ang nasalaysay na kuwento dito sa ‘MMK’ – mga kuwentong totoo, mga salamin ng sarili ninyong buhay na nagbigay ng aral at ng panibagong pag-asa.”
Ate Charo thanked everyone who had written letters, the staff who worked on the show, and the actors who had been in it during the previous three decades.
“Kami po ay tagapaghatid lang ng mga kuwento,” she said. “Kung mauulit man ang lahat, hindi po ako magdadalawang isip na piliin muli ang role na ito. Kulang po ang tatlumpu’t isang taon para magpasalamat sa inyo.”
MMK debuted on ABS-CBN in May 1991, and dramatized real-life accounts narrated in letters that viewers have sent to the show.
Throughout its run, MMK won numerous national and international accolades for both its cast and production crew. The drama series’ success has sparked the creation of numerous other works under the same name, including radio dramas, motion pictures, and comic book adaptations.
The three-part finale episode of MMK will show from November 26 to December 10.
Many netizens reacted by reminiscing their favorite stories and moments from the long-running drama anthology, while others believe MMK will make a comeback in some form or another.
