Suspended JRU forward John Amores receives letter of encouragement from VP Sara Duterte

Beleaguered Jose Rizal University (JRU) basketball player John Amores, who has been banned indefinitely from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) games following a punching rampage against De La Salle-College of St, Benilde players during a heated game on November 8, proudly shared a personal letter of encouragement he had recently received from Vice President Sara Duterte.

On December 5, Amores shared in his Facebook account a photo of the envelope addressed to him that came from Duterte’s office. The post’s caption reads:

It’s my pleasure receiving this kind of gesture from our Dearly VP Sarah Duterte ❤️
“Remember the lesson not the mistake,You have a friend from the Office of the Vice President” It was a great honor Mam thank you for those words of encouragement ❤️
Ps. Ipapa frame ko to as a remembrance na sa dami ng bashers at negative critics may isang tao na ipapaalala sayo na Mahalaga ka kahit di mo kaano ano 👌🤘I wont lose hope, somewhere in between in the darkest season of my life there’s still a light ❤️
Inday Sara Duterte ❤️

Amores, who has also been removed from JRU’s basketball program, seems to be getting his second wind as he has recently signed with Zamboanga Valientes for their upcoming campaign in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Invitational next year.

Valientes team general manager Nino Rejhi Natividad issued a statement saying that “We at Valientes believe in second chances. He is a good player who made a mistake which he truly regrets. One mistake does not define who you are.”

Amores is also facing two separate legal complaints involving his hot-headed antics on court.

Netizens, however, are not buying what they see as cheap melodrama. They pointed out that Duterte herself was caught on television punching was caught on television punching a court sheriff amid demolition ops in Davao City when she was mayor.
