Pets to be allowed in LRT-2 starting February

Beginning February 1, fur parents can now take their pets with them when they travel on the Light Rail Transit Line 2.

In a televised public briefing on Thursday, January 26, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Hernando Cabrera said that pets will be allowed inside LRT-2 stations and trains from Feb. 1 under the following rules:

  •  Pets should be fully vaccinated against rabies.
  • They should be placed inside a cage to avoid operational problems that may arise if they’re only on a leash.
  •  Pets should wear diapers.
  • Pets cannot be too big.

Cabrera did not specify exactly what size would be considered “too big.” He said that the LRT administration is implementing the same policies in place in other pet-friendly establishments.

“We may run into some problems with huge pets… it may be difficult for them to enter the train. We all know what sometimes it gets too crammed inside,” Cabrera explained.

The move to allow pets in LRT-2 follows the relaxation of pet guidelines by the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 in 2021.

Cabrera has assured that they will coordinate with the management of Light Rail Transit Line 1 to do the same.
