OTS to probe ENHYPEN security screening incident NAIA

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) announced on Monday, Feb. 6, that it will look into claims of “unprofessional behavior” allegedly displayed by some of its personnel during the conduct of security screening procedures for popular Korean group ENHYPEN at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In a statement, the OTS said it is studying a video circulating on social media showing a female airport security screening personnel giggling while doing a body-search on members of the K-pop group.

“The management is currently investigating the matter to determine the extent of violation committed based on existing rules and security screening protocols if any, and impose appropriate administrative sanctions, should it be necessary,” the statement read.

“While we understand the excitement brought about by the presence of these Korean artists, we remind not only our personnel, but all airport users, that unauthorized filming at our security screening checkpoints is not allowed as a matter of policy,” it added.

“Rest assured that the OTS shall never tolerate any unprofessional behavior towards the riding public.”

ENHYPEN held a three-day concert in the country as part of its “Manifesto” tour held in 13 cities in South Korea, US, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines for a total of 22 shows.

The OTS stepped in after after the video went viral and fans took to social media to call out the alleged violation of the airport’s no-contact security protocols, which said that pat downs are only done under “exceptional cases.”

On Monday, hashtags related to the incident trended on Twitter in the Philippines. Fans of the group, who call themselves Engenes, tweeted their disgust and outrage using the hashtags #MIAAdoBetter, “NAIA,” “Nakakahiya” and “UNPROFESSIONAL”.
