Netizens share fond memories of PinoyExchange as online forum announces shutdown after 23 years

PinoyExchange, the OG online forum where Filipinos around the globe exchanged ideas and opinions on various topics that were mostly uniquely Pinoy, is shutting on April 15 after 23 years.
“For nearly 24 years, http://PinoyExchange.com became the virtual home of many Filipinos here and abroad. It is with deep sadness that we announce that PEx will say goodbye on April 15, 2023.
From the bottom of our hearts,
Maraming Salamat!” PinoyExchange tweeted on Tuesday.
The bittersweet announcement opened the floodgates for fond reminisces and aching nostalgia among those who came of age in the late 1990s and early 2000s. PinoyExchange was the Filipino precursor for social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit, where Filipinos engaged in lively online conversations on anything from UAAP basketball teams to television network wars to tips for first-time travellers to Hong Kong.
Founded by Michael Nolledo, Nix Nolledo, and Jude Turcuato in July 1999, PinoyExchange became popular through exposure via televised UAAP basketball games where Jude was a commentator. They were later joined by Michael Palacios, who became its lead designer and technical consultant.
PExers, as avid users of the online forum called themselves, expressed their appreciation for what PinoyExchange has meant to them over the years.
