Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles steps down from post due health reasons

Trixie Cruz-Angeles has resigned from the Office of the Press Secretary, Malacañang confirmed Tuesday.

In a statement, Angeles said she tendered her resignation the morning of October 4, which will be “effective end of business hours.”

“I tendered my resignation this morning, effective end of business hours today. Due to health reasons. It was a pleasure working with you,” she said.

After Marcos’ official travel to the US, rumors of Cruz-Angeles’ resignation from her position started to spread.

Cruz-Angeles is the second member of the Cabinet to quit after Vic Rodriguez declared on September 17 that he was giving up his position as executive secretary but would remain as Marcos’ chief of staff.

Lucas Bersamin, a retired justice of the Supreme Court, took over for Rodriguez.

At least 10 members of Marcos’ Cabinet who had not received the approval of the Commission on Appointments had their ad interim appointments renewed on Tuesday morning.

Angeles was among the officials who were not on the list and not present during the ceremony.

Also stepping down from office is Commission on Audit (CoA) Chairman Jose Calida.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed Calida’s resignation in an interview with select Palace reporters.

“He (Calida) tendered his resignation for many reasons,” Bersamin said.

It was in June when Marcos nominated Calida as head of the COA, a constitutional commission.

Calida also served as Solicitor General under the leadership of former President Rodrigo Duterte and as Justice Secretary during the watch of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
