Skeletal remains uncovered in DOJ compound

Human skeletal remains were unearthed at an excavation site inside the Department of Justice (DOJ) compound in Manila on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 24.

The skeletal remains were discovered by workmen who were digging inside the DOJ site where the department library will be built, according to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla.

Remulla did not disclose other information, though, like whether the remains belonged to one person or numerous people.

He stated that the remains will be examined by the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) Forensic Division.

In addition, forensic pathologist Raquel Fortun and anthropologists are expected to meet with Remulla on Friday to examine the remains.

According to a report that was publicly available, skeletal remains were also discovered in the DOJ site in 2009 while a three-story building for prosecutors was being built.

Then, two skulls and long skeleton fragments thought to be human forearms and legs were discovered.

According to a different story, the DOJ offices’ property used as an execution ground during World War II.
