Kuya Kim goes viral after admonishing alleged ‘snubbing’ of fans by professional volleyball players
Television host and sports aficionado Kim Atienza was the talk of Twitterati after taking to Facebook to express his dismay over a video clip showing a professional volleyball team seemingly ignoring fans who are trying to call their attention.
In a video taken by a fan, members of the Choco Mucho Flying Titans are seen walking to their van with nary an acknowledgement of the fan who can be heard calling out the team members one by one as they board the van.
Seemingly taking offense on behalf of the fan, Kuya Kim, as the TV personality is fondly called, wrote:
As public personalities, (yes athletes are also public figures) We have a choice to inspire and show gratitude to fans who passionately support us or we can choose to stay private and give them the cold shoulder. This team should be advised that catering to fans is a responsibility, otherwise, stay out of the public eye and play privately. What an irritating yet sad sight. I hope they are advised by their sponsors to act properly in public. Back to you guys.
Netizens were divided on the issue. Some agreed with Kuya Kim and Labador, saying that celebrities or not, people would do well to show common courtesy when others greet you or call out your name in a pleasant manner.
Others, however, defended the right of individuals, even public figures. to privacy and that athletes do not owe anything to anybody else and fans must respect their personal spaces.
Motivational speaker Rendon Labador added his two cents on the matter by posting the video on his Tiktok with the caption: “Sino po ang coach ng mga ito? Dagdagan pa natin ng konti pang training sa good manners & right conduct.”
Netizens didn’t take too kindly to Labado’s unsolicited advice, either. Some branded him as a clout chaser who needs to practice what he preaches.
