Netizens’ hilarious reactions to GMA Gala Night
Netizes had a field day poking fun at GMA Network’s Thanksgiving Gala Night, which was held on Saturday, July 30, at the grand ballroom ng Shang-ri La The Fort. Whether justified or not, GMA Gala Night is seen by many as an inferior copycat of the more glamorous Star Magic Ball held annually by rival network, ABS-CBN.
The glitzy affair was attended by the Kapuso Network’s biggest stars in the fields of entertainment and public service, including Bea Alonzo, Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Dingdong Dantes, Alden Richards, and Atom Araullo. Despite the posh venue and the stars looking like a million bucks in their elegant formal wear, netizens couldn’t pointing out the haphazardly put together decorations and GMA’s own stars hinting that the food served was not up to the mark, taste-wise.
Eagle-eyed Twitter user Nikkoy @the_only_nikkoy posted screenshots showing what appears to be aluminum foil being used as a silvery backdrop.
Social media posts during and after the gala hinted that the food served was a disappointment. In a TikTok post GMA Sparkle artist Mariel Pamintuan jokingly referred to one food (possibly liver pâté) as tasting like (canned) “liver spread.”
One Twitter user joked that Andrea Torres’s handbag looked like a takeaway spaghetti container.
Apparently GMA star Beauty Gonzalez wasn’t satisfied with the gala food either, as she was photographed scarfing down a burger at McDonald’s, while GMA News reporter Mavs Gonzales shared a photo of her tasty post-gala spread.
Guests of honor at the gala were GMA Network President and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., ang EVP and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, at GMA Network Films, Inc. President and Programming Consultant to the Chairman and CEO Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes.
