Most schools nationwide is anticipated to start the 2022–2023 school year (SY) with the adoption of blended learning, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday, August 19.
At the joint news conference of DepEd and the Office of the Vice President (OVP) at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City, DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa stated that “around 90% of schools countrywide would open the SY 2022-2023 with [an] in-person feature on school opening.”
DepEd has given schools the freedom to select the learning modalities they would use when classes for SY 2022-2023 begin the following week during the transition period, which runs from Aug. 22 to Oct. 31.based on the School Calendar and Activities for 2022 or DepEd Order No. 034 series of 2022.
During the transition phase, the department only prescribed the alternatives of five days of in-person classes, blended learning, and full distance learning, in accordance with DepEd Order No. 034 series of 2022 or the School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2022-2023.
According to DepEd, starting on November 2 all public and private schools should have switched to five days of in-person instruction. With the exception of those using alternate delivery methods, “no school shall be authorized to employ entirely remote learning or mixed learning.”
Poa stated that 29,721 schools, or 51.8% of all schools nationally, will employ a blended learning modality, citing preliminary data. But he added, “I must tell you that there is an in-person component to our blended learning.”
The majority of schools will use the three-day in-person and two-day remote learning setups.
In the meanwhile, 24, 175 schools, or 46% of all schools nationally, will implement five days of in-person instruction.
Only 1.29 percent, or 1,004 schools, will fully implement distance learning, according to Poa.
Students will begin using textbooks in schools that will adopt five days of in-class instruction, according to Poa. Learners are expected to use offline/printed modules in blended learning and full distant learning.
According to enrollment statistics for SY 2021–2022, there are more than 60,000 schools offering basic education countrywide.
