Pres. Marcos appoints new Sugar Regulatory Board execs
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has named three new appointees to the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), Malacañang announced on Saturday, August 21.
As confirmed by Victor Rodriguez, David John Thaddeus Alba has been appointed as acting administrator of SRA, along with Pablo Luis Azcona and Ma. Mitzi Mangwag as board members of the sugar regulatory body.
The appointment of Alba follows the resignation of Hermenegildo Serafica as SRA administrator due to the unauthorized signing of Sugar Order (SO) 4, which allowed 300,000 metric tons (MT) of sugar to be imported from Mexico.
In Negros Occidental, Alba leads the Association of Agricultural Producers of La Carlota y Pontevedra as well as the La Carlota Mill District Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
Sugar planters and sugar millers, respectively, will be represented by Azcona and Mangwag.
The new SRA officials’ appointment papers have not yet been released by Malacañang.
The SRA is a government-owned and -controlled corporation attached to the Department of Agriculture (DA), which Marcos currently heads.
The President is also the concurrent chair of the SRA.
