Large crowds flock to DSWD central office for educational cash distribution

A massive throng flocked to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) headquarters office in Quezon City on Saturday morning, August 21, on the first day of the distribution of financial aid for impoverished students.

Erwin Tulfo, secretary of the DSWD, personally pleaded with the audience to be calm as he asked for their understanding and patience as the department processed the numerous relief applications.

Tulfo listed a number of possibilities that folks who could no longer be accommodated today could use.

As early as Friday afternoon, students, parents, and guardians began forming lengthy lines outside the DSWD central office to apply for financial aid.

The DSWD announced on Friday that it will provide P500 million in financial aid to needy pupils who require clothing, shoes, school supplies, and other necessities.

Tulfo said cash assistance worth P1,000 for elementary students, P2,000 for high school students, P3,000 for senior high school students, and P4,000 for tertiary students enrolling in colleges or technical-vocational schools can be given to up to three students per destitute family.

Starting this Saturday and continuing every Saturday through September 24, 2022, the cash support will be accessible at the DSWD central, regional, provincial, and other local offices.
