Viral video: Teachers chase after pupil running away from kindergarten in Cagayan
A video clip of a kindergarten pupil being chased by teachers on a motorcycle in order to convince him to go back to school, has warmed the hearts of netizens in the Philippines.
In the viral clip, five-year-old kindergarten pupil named Kyrie is shown running as teachers Lyka Joy Antonio Alveza and Roselyn Carillo Campano of Caroan Elementary School in Cagayan try to persuade him to go back to school.
Teacher Lyka had just started her kindergarten class on August 28 when the boy took off, prompting her to chase after him on a motorcycle borrowed from fellow Teacher Roselyn, who also took the video.
During the chase, the teachers tried all sorts of appeasements to get little Kyrie to return to school, to no avail.
The chase ended with the teachers making sure Kyrie has reached his home safely.
In an interview with GMA Regional TV’s Balitang Amianan, teacher Lyka emphasizes the need to make children feel they’re important, that there’s nothing to fear about going to school, and that teachers understand what their students feel.
“Kailangang ipadama sa mga bata na mahalaga sila, na hindi nakakatakot pumasok sa school, na naiintindihan ng mga guro ang kanilang mga nararamdaman. In this way, ma momotivate pumasok at mag-aral,” said Teacher Lyka.
Teacher Roselyn, who took the viral video, said that young children should be shown patience and compassion, and not scolded, spanked or threatened, because they’re at the stage where they’re anxious about being separated from their parents.
“Kailangan nating maipakita ang mahabang pasensya at pang-unawa. Hindi natin kailangang paluin, pagalitan o di kaya takutin kasi nasa separation stage pa lamang siya from home to school,” added Teacher Roseyln.
The boy has since gone back to kindergarten and is adjusting very well, according to his caring teachers.
