Sharon Cuneta refused entry by Hermes store in SK, splurges in LV boutique instead
Megastar Sharon Cuneta revealed in her latest vlog that she was turned away by a Hermes fashion boutique during a trip to South Korea recently.
“Pumunta ako dito para bumili ng sinturon sa Hermes, ayaw akong papasukin,” said Sharon in her vlog entitled “Sharon in Seoul Part 3” uploaded on YouTube on Sept. 30. She did not disclose why she was not allowed to enter the luxury shop.
Later in the same vlog, Sharon and her companions are seen doing “revenge shopping” in a Louis Vuitton store.
The megastar and her entourage received a bottle of champagne and flowers from the Louis Vuitton team as gifts. “I got champagne and flowers. Thank you, Louis Vuitton. Thank you.”
Following a shopping galore at Louis Vuitton, Sharon and her companions returned in front of the Hermes store and told the guy at the door: “See, I bought everything.” Sharon showed the Korean guy the shopping bags from Louis Vuitton.
Sharon’s experience is reminiscent of what happened to popular American television personality Oprah Winfrey, who was humiliated when she was barred from entering Hermes fashion house in 2014.
Netizens on Twitter expressed admiration for Sharon, who took it all in stride, and in stead chose to “get even” “Pretty Woman” style. A clip from the movie’s memorable shopping scene appears in Sharon’s vlog.
In the Julia Roberts-Richard Gere starrer, Roberts’ character, Vivian, is turned away by the staff of a posh boutique in Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive because of how “loudly” she was dressed. In her next shopping trip, Vivian, now properly bedecked in a white button-down dress and hat, gets better treatment in another Beverly Hills store where Gere’s character splurges on outfits for her.
With bags from luxury stores hanging from one arm, Vivian stops by the sales clerk who had brushed her off earlier, asks her, “Do you work on commission?” The woman, who doesn’t recognize the “cleaned up” Vivian, confirms she does. “Big mistake. Huge!” Vivian exclaims, gloating in the face of the mortified clerk.
What happened to the megastar, many netizens claimed, was a sign of racist attitudes among sales clerks in South Korea, particularly those who work in posh shops.
